BioWare is dead. Announced yesterday. Really kind of a surprise to no one. They hadn't been successful in the launch of anything in quite a long time.
Someone who worked with them, not as an employee, but as part of Infogrames/Atari who distributed some of their games, I believe, posted this picture of early BioWare vs. a recent BioWare staff picture.
It's possible that nothing more needs to be said. The top picture is the staff that made the original Baldur's Gate games, Neverwinter Nights, and even Star Wars: The Old Republic.
I'm not super thrilled with some of the changes that BioWare obviously had here; Jade Empire was disappointing after KOTOR, and SWTOR, as much as I've loved playing it, it had a number of mis-steps too. Many of them were corporate mis steps, but there were lots of ridiculous culture wars mis steps too. Anyway, curiously, SWTOR was moved to Broadsword for maintenance about three years or so ago. It will curiously outlive the company that built it. Baldur's Gate, of course, had a massively successful second sequel recently, although of course, not developed by BioWare either. BioWare launched... Dragon Age: Veilguard, one of the most mocked launches of the last many years.
