Well, I'm a day or two late on getting this news, but on January 10th--so last Thursday, I guess, the 59th national park in the US was created out of a former national monument. Pinnacles National Park, in central western California is the newest addition to the "full park status" family. Congrats, Pinnacles! One more to add to my list. This actually looks like a fun one; an eroded and Cyclopean former volcano.
