Post election

Mixed bag.  Republicans do well in the Senate, do very well where Trump campaigned personally.  Locally, they did poorly; did not flip the Senate, did not keep the governorship, etc.  Bill Kristol, who is an evil man who I disagree with (in terms of what he wants to do, anyway), said something that is quite correct:
I've always disliked the phrase "demography is destiny," as it seems to minimize the capacity for deliberation and self-government, for reflection and choice. But looking at tonight's results in detail, one has to say that today, in America, demography sure seems to be destiny.
There's no such thing as America anymore when there are no longer enough Americans to maintain it.

But, all is not lost.  We knew there would be setbacks.  This is a mixed bag, like I said before.  There's both good news and bad news.  Both sides are claiming victory and a mandate for their agenda.

I had an interesting conversation with someone at Church last night, briefly.  I didn't say everything that I would have, but y'know.  This friend of mine said that she no longer associated with either party, because she rejected the extremism of both sides.  I pointed out that there's no such thing as extremism on the Right, by definition.  Because the Right is about holding the line, or at its most "extreme"; moving the line back to where it was in the past, it's impossible to be extreme about that.  That's not an extreme position.  What has happened is that we've been indoctrinated in a couple of generations of an insane fever dream of radical Leftism to the point that our perception of what is normal has become skewed.  But what is sometimes considered "extreme" right wing hasn't changed from what were just mainstream, regular, positions 50-60 years ago.  Although she agreed (at least, she said she did) I doubt she'll change her mind about where she is.  Americans in general are still too interested in virtue-signaling then they are in preserving their nation for their posterity.  And I know for a fact that this women's posterity eagerly voted for Democrats anyway.  Freakin' Millennials.

Which is where Kristol got it wrong.  Thanks to the 19th Amendment and the feminization of America's men while we're at it, there is no deliberation, reflection and choice.  There's merely bouncing around from one emotional flashpoint to another.  Why has this life-long Republican and self-professed conservative decided to become a centrist?  Because of conflict within her family because her kids are treasonous socialists, quite honestly.  It's not deliberate.  It's not reflection.  It's conflict avoidance and emotionalism.

What I should have done is ask her specifically which Right wing positions she thinks are extreme.  Of course, she would have struggled to name one, and if she did name one, she would have felt foolish saying it, because it wouldn't have sounded extreme as soon as she said it.  I mean, seriously; what's an extreme Right wing position?  Rounding up illegals and sending them home?  Nobody really thought Operation Wetback was an extreme operation during the Eisenhower administration.

Anyway... enough about these kinds of topics.  I have another blog where I try to keep more of that kind of stuff isolated.  What I really need is to finish a few of my series on gaming, I think.
